Nancy Morgan Barnes and Robert Barnes Opening Reception, Friday, September 1, 5-7 pm.
The gWatson Gallery is exhibiting new paintings by Robert and Nancy Morgan Barnes.
A native of Washington, DC, Robert Barnes graduated from the Art Institute of Chicago and then studied at Hunter College and Columbia University. Residing in New York, Barnes worked with the Chilean artist Matta and developed friendships with surrealist painters Marcel Duchamp and Max Ernst. As a Fullbright Scholar at the Slade School of Art in London, he studied with Francis Bacon. Barnes exhibits his work throughout the US and Europe including New York, Chicago, Paris and Italy. His work is also in the collections of major museums. Barnes taught at Indiana University for thirty-seven years.
Nancy Morgan Barnes was born in South Bend, IN and holds an MFA degree from Indiana University. She is shown throughout the US, Europe and Canada including Montreal, Chicago, Indianapolis, and Italy. She exhibits widely in Maine, where she is known for her unique landscape paintings which often contain figures and animals in the landscape. Nancy Barnes taught at DePauw University and Indiana University.
Both artists reside in Searsport, Maine.
