The 128th Maine Legislature has begin the committee orientation and education process and will begin public hearings and work sessions in full force in the very near future
The Environment and Natural Resources committee will hold a public hearing on Wednesday morning regarding LD 57, An Act To Phase Out the Use of Single-use Plastic Shopping Bags.
Also on Wednesday morning, the Education and Cultural Affairs committee will hear LD 49, An Act To Improve Science and Engineering Education for Maine’s Students. The committee will also be reviewing college and career readiness legislation.
The Appropriations and Financial Affairs committee will continue working on the supplemental budget this week.
The Labor, Commerce, Research, and Economic Development committee continues its orientation process this week and move into a public hearing on workers’ compensation bill.
The Veterans and Legal Affairs committee held a public hearing last week on LD 88, An Act To Delay the Implementation of Certain Portions of the Marijuana Legalization Act (Emergency), which seeks a short-term moratorium on implementation of the recent referendum. A Joint Select Committee is expected to form soon on this issue to review the 50-70 pieces of related legislation.
