Island Women Speak: Opera House Arts

May 24, 2018 @ 7:00 pm

Island Women Who Speak

Island Women Speak, the popular women’s storytelling event at the Stonington Opera House, is coming back on Thursday May 24 at 7pm! Seven women, seven generations (from age 20 to 94), seven true stories.

Following the wildly successful inaugural evening in January, this new storytelling initiative returns to the Opera House in the hands of producer/director Debbie Weil. The theme this time is “Island secrets” and the seven speakers will each perform a personal story she has written on the topic, revealing truths about her life on the Island or the Peninsula. The project is based on New York City’s Generation Women, a monthly event that features women authors and storytellers from each decade, telling personal stories from the stage. Weil participated in Generation Women last fall, and was inspired to bring the project to Deer Isle.

This diverse group of seven women, who are well-known locally, will each tell a revealing story about their life on Deer Isle and about who they really are underneath their public persona. The speakers represent a multigenerational cross section of Deer Isle residents: Nicole Nolan, Team 20; Amanda Larrabee, Team 30; Melissa Jones-Bayley, Team 40; Becky Siebert, Team 50; Suzy Shepherd, Team 60; Judith Jerome, Team 70;  Ginger Reiman, Team 90.

Everyone is welcome for this evening of true stories, warm hearts, truth and humor. Tickets are $10 at the door.
