Edible Island: Wild Foods Class: Elderberry Syrup

October 14, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

Join Brighid in a hands-on experience making Elderberry Syrup and its many components including an herb infused honey, a decoction and a tincture. Explore the many health promoting benefits that Elder provides. The Elder plant offers us medicine to help us through the cold and flu season. We will discuss how Elder berries and flowers promote health while we have a cold or flu. We will learn how to make and use multiple herbal preparations with Elder as the star, culminating in a final product of an elderberry syrup that you can bring home to enjoy.

Brighid Doherty is an herbalist residing on Deer Isle. For the past 22 years Brighid has worked with medicinal plants in a variety of ways, studying them, preparing and using them, growing and harvesting them, and teaching about them. She leads monthly medicinal plant walks at Scott’s Landing, hosts herbal spas, and teaches a variety of herbal workshops.
